Grape Nuts Advertising Tin

The original grape nuts advertising tin was made in 1897 by General Foods Post Cereal Company.  The tin had a picture on it that wrapped around it.  This picture was of a little girl walking beside a St. Bernard on her way to school.  The picture said “To school well fed on Grape-Nuts There’s a Reason”.  This tin is now kept as a collectors item.  This tin was a single sheet of stamped tin with a frame.   

Grape Nuts was used in the military as a part of the rations that soldiers were given.  The fact that the food was so small, lightweight and spoiled slowly made it a perfect treat for long trips or camping.  Despite the Grape-nuts brand name the cereal in itself contains neither grapes OR nuts.  The cereal would be cooked in an oven and come out on a baking sheet as one large rigid sheet of Grape-nuts.  At this point the sheet would be taken and place into a coffee grinder.  The grinder would chop it up into small pieces like you would find in a box of Grape-nuts today.

Crystalens Radio Advertising

Is Advertising Liquor On Television And Radio Irresponsible

The US creates a large hype about products that are illegal for the youth of the nation.  Its drilled into American Citizens  that smoking can only be done after the age of 18, and drinking after the age of 21.  Television and radio up until 2001 would not advertise hard liquor in their programming.  But is advertising liquor on television and radio irresponsible?

21 is the legal age to drink.  21 is also the legal age to be able to buy drinks.  This 21 and up rule covers all the responsibility that needs to be shown.  If a company has a new product they should be able to advertise it to increase their sales.  To show responsibility through their advertisements the liquor companies should be careful as to not target people under the legal drinking age.  But even still, if a child can watch 30 beer commercials during the super bowl, why can’t they watch a liquor commercial right after it.

These products were made free of charge and for awhile they were completely free.  No charges no hidden fees no limited usage.  The products have not changed but the way they are delivered has.  Programs that are trialware or shareware are now held to limited use.  Sure you can use the program for the time being but within a certain allotment of time the program will no longer be usable and the customer is asked to purchase the very same product they were just able to use for free.  Antivirus software on the computer is the same way.  Sure we have this limited version for you, but to completely keep your computer secure, you are going to want to buy the full version.

Giving people a taste of what they are looking for and then having them have to pay for it is a marketing strategy to charge for free services.

Ford Motor Company Marketing Segmentation Strategy


Ford is putting a new foot forward with their ford motor company marketing segmentation strategy.  Ford hired Jim Farley to take the reins of their marketing team.  To promote their new subcompact cars Ford gave out Fiestas.  The Fiestas went to people that would be able to record their adventures in the car.  Creating hands on appreciation for the car from the consumer point of view. 

Ford noticed that over 50% of people buying their f-10 trucks listened to country music.  With this knowledge they have befriended artists and created events to entertain their Ford owners.  In the works is a plan to help out with the recession.  Coming up with new payment plans and buying options.   Ford has always been known as a “gas guzzling” car/truck but it is in the works to “go greener”.  Ford has brought up the quality of their cars to be on par with their competition and from the looks of things they are not planning on going anywhere.
